In January 2002 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Furniture, Silver and Folk Art featuring, which included the work A Pair of Portraits: Catherine Illig Waechter and her son, Jonathan by Jacob Maentel. The »bidding war« ended at USD 17,625.00 (€ 20,508.49), 18% above the upper estimate. With this result, A Pair of Portraits: Catherine Illig Waechter and her son, Jonathan is even the most expensive work of art by Jacob Maentel that we have observed at auctions so far.
