This artwork by Yuri Annenkov achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2007. In the Important Russian Pictures auction, the work Portrait of Aleksandr Nikolaevich Tikhonov sold for GBP 2,260,500.00 (€ 3,165,284.82) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200,000.00. This high result makes Portrait of Aleksandr Nikolaevich Tikhonov the most expensive artwork by Yuri Annenkov that we have observed at auctions so far.
