Collection of Vladimir and Raelyn Ossipoff, Honolulu, Hawaii. | Isami Doi is considered by many to be the first Hawaiian artist of international renown. He was a Japanese American born on Oahu and raised in Kauai to a family of modest means. Like many Nisei, his parents wanted him to become a doctor. They saved money to send Doi to Columbia University for medical school, but falling short, they allowed him to attend the Teachers' College instead. 1

A top price for Isami Doi - as previously expected
The work Portrait of a Woman in a Kimono by Isami Doi was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in August this year. The price achieved of USD 38,400.00 (€ 35,427.62) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of a Woman in a Kimono is the most expensive artwork by Isami Doi that we have observed at auctions so far.

Die Arbeit Portrait of a Woman in a Kimono von Isami Doi kam im August diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in Los Angeles zur Auktion. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 38.400,00 (€ 35.427,62) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben worden.
