In May 2004 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Pictures, which included the work H.M.S. Marlborough going into action at Jutland by Irwin John David Bevan. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,135.25 (€ 1,703.29), 62% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Irwin John David Bevan; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Two Protaganists (Illustrated); And An Unequal Struggle sold at auction in November 2006 with the realized price of GBP 1,920.00 (€ 2,851.26).
