Second edition, 4to (344 x 277 mm.), stipple-engraved portrait frontispiece by W. Holl after S. Shelley, dedication leaf, 12 hand-coloured aquatint plates (9 with overslips), 15 plain or tinted aquatint or engraved plates (3 with overslips), 32 illustrations (2 with overslips, one hand-coloured), contemporary diced russia, gilt dentelles, spine with raised bands in six compartments, edges marbled, scattered spotting and browning, closed tears near folds of 'General View of Bayham' plate (paper repairs to verso), extremities slightly rubbed, otherwise a fine copy

The work Observations on the Theory and Practice of Landscape Gardening, London, 1805 by Humphry Repton was sold in the The Library of Henry Rogers Broughton, 2nd Baron Fairhaven Part I auction at Sothebys in London in May last year. It achieved a price of GBP 4,788.00 (€ 5,632.63), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 20%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Humphry Repton - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work North-east view of Norman Court showing a proposal for classical north front and outbuildings, which sold at auction in July 2020 for GBP 13,812.00 (€ 15,406.23).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Observations on the Theory and Practice of Landscape Gardening, London, 1805 von Humphry Repton wurde im Mai letzten Jahres in der Auktion The Library of Henry Rogers Broughton, 2nd Baron Fairhaven Part I bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 4.788,00 (€ 5.632,63) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 20%. Für andere Arbeiten von Humphry Repton mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit North-east view of Norman Court showing a proposal for classical north front and outbuildings beobachtet, die im Juli 2020 für GBP 13.812,00 (€ 15.406,23) versteigert wurde.
