This artwork by Hiram Powers achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in November 2012. In the American Art auction, the work Bust Of George Washington sold for USD 86,500.00 (€ 66,487.32) - well above the upper estimate of USD 30,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Hiram Powers; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Bust Of George Washington sold at auction in December 2008 with the realized price of USD 182,500.00 (€ 131,115.74).
