Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Peasants in a horse-drawn wagon on a country road with a traveller nearby, a windmill beyond, in a stormy landscape by Hermanus van Brussel was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in September 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 910.00 – 1,400.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 540.50. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Hermanus van Brussel - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A portrait of the artist in his studio, which sold at auction in January 2009 for USD 2,750.00 (€ 2,147.77).
