This artwork by Herbert James Draper achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in February 2007. In the Christopher Wood A Very Victorian Eye auction, the work Study for 'The Kelpie' sold for GBP 28,800.00 (€ 42,694.97) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Herbert James Draper achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Mountain Mists in October 2021 with an auction result of USD 2,010,000.00 (€ 1,739,958.45).
