In the British Pictures (1500-1850) auction, the work Portrait of Margaret Smith, of Cotescue, full-length, seated, in a pink dress with white lace apron, holding a garland of flowers, in a landscape with a sheep sold for GBP 38,240.00 (€ 56,912.57) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00. Admittedly, works by Henry Pickering have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Sir Wolstan Dixie, 4Th Bt. (1701-1767), Of Bosworth Hall, Leicestershire, And His Family, Seated Around A Harpsichord in December 2010 with an auction result of GBP 223,250.00 (€ 258,969.33).
