Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Three drawings: A) Portrait of the actor Frédérick Lemaître with his wife and dog B) A Conversation C) A Restaurant Interior by Henry Bonaventure Monnier was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 500.00 – 700.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 378.00 (€ 327.22). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Henry Bonaventure Monnier - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Connoisseurs, which sold at auction in December 2011 for GBP 812.50 (€ 973.08).
