This work of art by Henri-Nicolas van Gorp could be acquired at Christies in New York in May 2000 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Important Old Master Paintings auction, the work Portrait of a gentleman, small seated full-length, holding La Gazette Nationale in his right hand, in an interior changed hands for USD 11,750.00 (€ 12,596.48) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. Other works by Henri-Nicolas van Gorp have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in February 2021 by the work Portrait Du Comte Septime De Villeneuve En Uniforme De Lieutenant Hussard De La Garde Royale Et Portrait De Sa Mère, La Comtesse René De Villeneuve, Née Appoline De Guibert at EUR 13,650.00.
