signed and dated 'HELEN BRADLEY/1972' and with fly insignia (lower right) and titled 'It was the Afternoon of Christmas Day' (verso); further signed, inscribed and dated again 'It was the Afternoon of Christmas Day/Grandma said that she thought we/should give the Birds a special treat,/so Alice came with George and I/through the snow into the Enchanted/Garden where we gave the Birds their crumbs/so they should have a good feed before/Dusk came bringing more snow/and a sharp frost and the year was/1906/Helen Layfield Bradley 1972.' Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Helen Bradley achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in November this year. In the Modern British Art auction, the work It was the Afternoon of Christmas Day 38.2 x 55.9 cm. (15 x 22 in.) sold for GBP 20,480.00 (€ 23,731.87) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 10,000.00. Admittedly, works by Helen Bradley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Oh it's the King and Queen in April 2019 with an auction result of GBP 162,500.00 (€ 189,034.46).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Helen Bradley erzielte im November diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Modern British Art wurde die Arbeit It was the Afternoon of Christmas Day 38.2 x 55.9 cm. (15 x 22 in.) für GBP 20.480,00 (€ 23.731,87) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 10.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Helen Bradley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Oh it's the King and Queen im April 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 162.500,00 (€ 189.034,46).
