In September 2006 Christies in New York held the auction Japanese and Korean Art, which included the work Oranda fujin kyosho aijido nozu (Dutch woman raising a cup to her lovely children in a toast), from the series Ikiutsushi ikoku jinbutsu (Foreigners drawn from life), 1860.11 Yokohama shoka ijin no zu: Furansu (Merchant establishments in Yokohama: by Hashimoto Sadahide. The »bidding war« ended at USD 1,920.00 (€ 1,513.36), 28% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hashimoto Sadahide achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Amerikakoku Taisen No Zu (A Large American Steamship), 1864.3 in March 2006 with an auction result of USD 57,600.00 (€ 47,450.37).
