Meiji era (1868-1912)
A hanging scroll in ink, color, and gold on silk of a samurai sitting cross-legged on the wooden floor of a structure open to the elements strumming a Heike biwa lute with a plectrum, while three other samurai in minutely detailed Kamakura period armor replete with swords and arrows listen, a boat floating on the water in the backgrounds, and a pine tree wrapped with flowering wisteria vines in the foreground, signed Gahō and sealed Hashimoto Gahō

Auction result misses estimated price range
In July last year a collector was able to acquire the work Samurai Playing Biwa Lute by Hashimoto Gahō for USD 382.50 (€ 374.93). This price was achieved in the auction Iron and InkPrints and Paintings, featuring Tetsubin from the Crawford Collection at Bonhams in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hashimoto Gahō achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work CRANES BESIDE A LAKE IN SPRING AND AUTUMN in December 2016 with an auction result of GBP 25,000.00 (€ 29,229.06).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im Juli letzten Jahres konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Samurai Playing Biwa Lute von Hashimoto Gahō für USD 382,50 (€ 374,93) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Iron and InkPrints and Paintings, featuring Tetsubin from the Crawford Collection bei Bonhams in New York erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Hashimoto Gahō erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit CRANES BESIDE A LAKE IN SPRING AND AUTUMN im Dezember 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 25.000,00 (€ 29.229,06).
