Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2010 Sothebys in London held the auction 19th Century European Paintings Including German, Austrian and Central European Paintings, The Orientalist Sale, Spanish Painting and the Scandinavian Sale, which included the work Austrian selbstbildnis (Self-Portrait) by Hans Makart. It changed hands for a price of GBP 18,750.00 (€ 22,801.75) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hans Makart achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Frauenporträt in ägpytischem Kostüm in October 2000 with an auction result of GBP 174,250.00 (€ 297,843.07).
