Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Captives And Seamen, And A Portrait Of A Man In Profile by Giulio Carpioni was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,125.00 (€ 2,524.96). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giulio Carpioni achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Worship of Venus in December 2012 with an auction result of GBP 79,250.00 (€ 97,737.26).
