Auction result misses estimated price range
In July 2010 a collector was able to acquire the work Figures and boats near a fortified farmhouse on a lake (recto); Putti holding a cartouche flanked by women (verso) by Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi for GBP 2,375.00 (€ 2,855.67). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours Day at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A classical river landscape with figures fishing in April 2005 with an auction result of GBP 12,000.00 (€ 17,761.75).
