Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work The Investiture of Saint Clare: the Saint receiving the clothes of her Order from Saint Francis by Giovanni di Paolo was worth GBP 3,611,250.00 (€ 4,268,074.84) to a buyer in December 2019. This price was achieved in the auction Old Masters Evening Sale at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 800,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Giovanni di Paolo; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Saint Clare rescuing the shipwrecked sold at auction in December 2019 with the realized price of GBP 5,313,750.00 (€ 6,280,230.58).
