Despite a disappointment, a good price for Giovanni Battista Merano
In March 2017 a collector was able to acquire the work Christ Among the Doctors by Giovanni Battista Merano for GBP 12,500.00 (€ 14,648.77). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master & British Paintings at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, Christ Among the Doctors is the most expensive artwork by Giovanni Battista Merano that we have observed at auction so far.
