Auction result well in line with expectations
The work View of Old London Bridge from the south bank looking towards Fishmongers Hall and The Monument (illustrated); and View of Old London Bridge from Chamberlain's Wharf, Tooley Street, looking north by Gideon Yates was sold in the British and Continental Watercolours and Original Book Illustrations auction at Christies in London in July 2007. The price achieved of GBP 1,320.00 (€ 1,960.50) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gideon Yates - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work View of Waterloo Bridge, eastwards from the north bank of the Thames, St. Paul's beyond; and View from above Goding's New Lion Ale Brewery looking towards Westminster Abbey and the north bank of the Thames (illustrated), which sold at auction in March 2007 for GBP 4,560.00 (€ 6,711.80).
