Upper estimate price exceeded by 45 %.
In May last year Bonhams in New York held the auction American Art, which included the work Ruffed Grouse 28 x 22 in. (71.1 x 55.9 cm.) by George Cope. The »bidding war« ended at USD 8,670.00 (€ 8,079.40), 45% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Cope achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Ace Hunter's Door in December 2002 with an auction result of USD 158,000.00 (€ 150,691.46).
