Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Monumental Abstract Self-Portrait by George Condo was auctioned at Christies in New York in November this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,500,000.00 – 4,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 3,438,000.00 (€ 3,151,815.18). Other works by George Condo have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in May 2018 by the work Nude and Forms at USD 6,162,500.00 (€ 5,280,634.10).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Monumental Abstract Self-Portrait von George Condo im November diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.500.000,00 – 4.500.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 3.438.000,00 (€ 3.151.815,18) den Besitzer. Andere Arbeiten von George Condo wurden auch schon teurer gehandelt; den höchsten Preis, den wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachten konnten, erzielte im Mai 2018 die Arbeit Nude and Forms mit USD 6.162.500,00 (€ 5.280.634,10).
