Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Frederick Judd Waugh achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in September 2015. In the American Art auction, the work Winds And Seas sold for USD 37,500.00 (€ 33,596.13) - well above the upper estimate of USD 18,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Frederick Judd Waugh; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Surf And Fog; Monhegan Maine sold at auction in October 2016 with the realized price of USD 50,000.00 (€ 45,612.11).
