Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2009 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of Princess Bariatinsky, three-quarter length by Franz Xaver Winterhalter for GBP 115,250.00 (€ 129,732.76). This price was achieved in the auction 19th Century European Art at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 120,000.00 – 180,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Franz Xaver Winterhalter achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Queen Olga of Württemberg, Grand Duchess of Russia in June 2006 with an auction result of GBP 1,072,000.00 (€ 1,551,166.13).
