Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Shore Acres (Chatham, Massachusetts) by Frank Vining Smith was auctioned at Bonhams in January this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,912.50 (€ 1,761.37). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Frank Vining Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Grand Banks fishing schooner in January 2007 with an auction result of USD 26,400.00 (€ 20,310.82).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Shore Acres (Chatham, Massachusetts) von Frank Vining Smith im Januar diesen Jahres bei Bonhams versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.500,00 – 3.500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 1.912,50 (€ 1.761,37) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Frank Vining Smith erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Grand Banks fishing schooner im Januar 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 26.400,00 (€ 20.310,82).
