Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The French frigate La Pomone in a heavy swell, with a Dutch frigate, an American brig and a local xebec all close at hand by François-Geoffroy Roux was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2011. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,459.25) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by François-Geoffroy Roux have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The French barque Sénégambie in Mediterranean waters off Marseilles in November 2010 with an auction result of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,696.86).
