Auction result misses estimated price range
In February 2004 a collector was able to acquire the work A fourty-four gun French frigate observed from her starboard side, under reduced sail in the Mediterranean by François-Geoffroy Roux for USD 5,975.00 (€ 4,802.67). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by François-Geoffroy Roux - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The French barque Sénégambie in Mediterranean waters off Marseilles, which sold at auction in November 2010 for GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,696.86).
