A top price for Francis William Wilkin - as previously expected
In May 2014 Christies in London held the auction The Raglan Collection: Wellington, Waterloo and The Crimea And Works of Art from the Collection of the Marquesses of Londonderry, which included the work Portrait of General Don Miguel Alava, K.C.B., (1771-1843), half-length, wearing the Waterloo medal by Francis William Wilkin. It changed hands for a price of GBP 2,375.00 (€ 2,918.95) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of General Don Miguel Alava, K.C.B., (1771-1843), half-length, wearing the Waterloo medal is the most expensive artwork by Francis William Wilkin that we have observed at auctions so far.
