This artwork by Francis Hargreaves achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2020. In the Old Master and British Works on Paper, including Portrait Miniatures from the Pohl-Ströher Collection auction, the work Portrait of a child holding a hobby horse, circa 1820 sold for GBP 630.00 (€ 703.77) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 300.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Francis Hargreaves; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A couple: he, facing right in black coat, waistcoat and bow-tie; she, facing right in black dress with lace collar and matching bonnet, gold brooch at corsage; both seated in chairs sold at auction in December 2002 with the realized price of GBP 587.50 (€ 901.84).
