A top price for Francis Hargreaves - as previously expected
In December 2002 Christies in London held the auction OBJECTS OF VERTU, PORTRAIT MINIATURES AND ICONS, which included the work A couple: he, facing right in black coat, waistcoat and bow-tie; she, facing right in black dress with lace collar and matching bonnet, gold brooch at corsage; both seated in chairs by Francis Hargreaves. The price achieved of GBP 587.50 (€ 901.84) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 500.00 – 700.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, A couple: he, facing right in black coat, waistcoat and bow-tie; she, facing right in black dress with lace collar and matching bonnet, gold brooch at corsage; both seated in chairs is the most expensive artwork by Francis Hargreaves that we have observed at auctions so far.
