Either Sir Henry Doulton or his son Ronald Duneau Doulton (a gift from the Egyptian Government in the late 1870s. Henry Doulton (1820-1897) joined his father's pottery workshops, developing glazes and initiating the manufacture of drainage pipes that made Doulton a household name. The company exhibited its wares in Philadelphia in 1876 and in Paris at the Exposition Universelle two years later, following which Doulton was made a Chevalier of the

The »bidding war« ended at GBP 74,500.00 (€ 89,650.78), 66% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Francesco Lojacono; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Italian view Of Acquasanta, Palermo sold at auction in November 2011 with the realized price of GBP 82,850.00 (€ 96,718.89).
