In November 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction European Paintings including The Orientalist Sale, Symbolism and the Poetic Vision and Spanish Painting, which included the work Italian Il Bacio by Francesco Hayez. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 780,450.00 (€ 943,622.70), 30% above the upper estimate. Other works by Francesco Hayez have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of USD 1,865,000.00 (€ 1,630,102.26) in April 2016 for the work Il Bacio.
