The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 3,500.00 but the actual price achieved was more than seven times as high at GBP 26,400.00 (€ 39,075.84). This high result makes Portrait of Vittorio Emanuele II, King of Italy (1820-1878); and Portrait of Maria Adelaide of Austria, Queen of Italy (1822-1855) the most expensive artwork by Francesco Gonin that we have observed at auctions so far.
