In April 2002 Christies in Hong Kong held the auction The Imperial Sale, Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, which included the work Couplet In Large Standard Script Calligraphy by Emperor Xianfeng. The »bidding war« ended at HKD 83,650.00 (€ 11,912.83), 67% above the upper estimate. This high result makes Couplet In Large Standard Script Calligraphy the most expensive artwork by Emperor Xianfeng that we have observed at auctions so far.
