Commentaire : A block from an Eileen Gray block-screen in her studio, given by Joseph Rykvert. On the death of Eileen Gray in 1976, her niece Prunella Clough cleared out her studio and gave this piece to Joseph Rykvert, her friend the architectural historian.
History
The principle of the block-screen was invented by Eileen Gray in 1922 and subsequently shown in the Monte Carlo boudoir at the Salon des Artistes
Décorateurs in 1923. She subsequently made several variations of colour and size

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Eileen Gray achieved an unexpectedly high price at Artcurial in June 2019. In the Eileen Gray & the Villa E-1027 auction, the work Élément Du Paravent Dit « Briques » - Circa 1923 sold for EUR 3,800.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Eileen Gray achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work PANNEAU ‘AUM MANE PADME AUM' (SALUT A TOI, O JOYAU DANS LE LOTUS), VERS 1912 in December 2019 with an auction result of EUR 310,000.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Eileen Gray erzielte im Juni 2019 bei Artcurial einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Eileen Gray & the Villa E-1027 wurde die Arbeit Élément Du Paravent Dit « Briques » - Circa 1923 für EUR 3.800,00 versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von EUR 1.500,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Eileen Gray erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit PANNEAU ‘AUM MANE PADME AUM' (SALUT A TOI, O JOYAU DANS LE LOTUS), VERS 1912 im Dezember 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 310.000,00.
