This artwork by Edward Lear achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December this year. In the Old Masters Part II: Paintings, Sculpture, Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work The Gulf of Brolo from near Kokkinomilia sold for GBP 11,970.00 (€ 13,788.98) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edward Lear achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Kasr-es-Saiyyad in June 2007 with an auction result of GBP 938,400.00 (€ 1,392,538.40).
