Thompson was sold in the British and Continental Watercolours auction at Christies in London in October 2006. The price achieved of GBP 1,320.00 (€ 1,972.20) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Evening, heathertime in Mardale near Haweswater, Westmorland (illustrated); and Veiled light, on the moors near Troutbeck, Keswick is the most expensive artwork by Edward H. Thompson that we have observed at auctions so far.
