Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2004 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours including Original Book, which included the work A mother feeding her infant at the cottage door by Edith Martineau. The price achieved of GBP 2,390.00 (€ 3,382.51) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Edith Martineau - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Aurora Leigh, which sold at auction in December 2017 for GBP 10,000.00 (€ 11,253.54).
