Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of Olimpia Maidalchini Pamphilj (1591–1657), Half Length, Wearing Black by Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez was sold in the Old Masters Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in London in July 2019. The price achieved of GBP 2,375,000.00 (€ 2,607,592.09) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000,000.00 – 3,000,000.00. Admittedly, works by Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Saint Rufina in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 8,420,000.00 (€ 12,505,643.64).
