Auction result well in line with expectations
In May last year Sothebys in New York held the auction Contemporary Evening Auction, which included the work Grand Canyon II by David Hockney. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 10,000,000.00 – 15,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 11,034,700.00 (€ 10,283,011.83) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by David Hockney - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Nichols Canyon, which sold at auction in December 2020 for USD 41,067,500.00 (€ 33,579,313.16).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Mai letzten Jahres führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Contemporary Evening Auction durch, in der auch die Arbeit Grand Canyon II von David Hockney zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 10.000.000,00 – 15.000.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 11.034.700,00 (€ 10.283.011,83) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von David Hockney mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Nichols Canyon beobachtet, die im Dezember 2020 für USD 41.067.500,00 (€ 33.579.313,16) versteigert wurde.
