This artwork by David Butler achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in January this year. In the Outsider and Vernacular Art auction, the work Untitled (Jonah and the Whale), double-sided sold for USD 5,292.00 (€ 4,873.83) - well above the upper estimate of USD 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by David Butler achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Walking Stick with Figure, circa 1975 in February last year with an auction result of USD 62,500.00 (€ 55,684.25).

Dieses Kunstwerk von David Butler erzielte im Januar diesen Jahres bei Christies einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Outsider and Vernacular Art wurde die Arbeit Untitled (Jonah and the Whale), double-sided für USD 5.292,00 (€ 4.873,83) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 3.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von David Butler erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Walking Stick with Figure, circa 1975 im Februar letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 62.500,00 (€ 55.684,25).
