Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
When the work Figure on Animal, 1982 by David Butler was auctioned at Christies in New York in February last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 4,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than six times as high at USD 27,500.00 (€ 24,501.07). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by David Butler - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Walking Stick with Figure, circa 1975, which sold at auction in February last year for USD 62,500.00 (€ 55,684.25).

Als die Arbeit Figure on Animal, 1982 von David Butler im Februar letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 4.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 27.500,00 (€ 24.501,07) mehr als sechsmal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von David Butler mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Walking Stick with Figure, circa 1975 beobachtet, die im Februar letzten Jahres für USD 62.500,00 (€ 55.684,25) versteigert wurde.
