Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2002 Christies in London held the auction British Art on Paper including Original Book Illustrations, which included the work Brampton, Cambridgeshire by Cornelius Varley. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,115.00 (€ 3,246.63) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Cornelius Varley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Hampstead Heath, which sold at auction in July 2010 for GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,775.37).
