Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An ivy-covered tower by an open track, Ireland by Cornelius Varley was sold in the British Art on Paper including Original Book Illustrations auction at Christies in London in June 2002. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,115.00 (€ 3,271.43) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Cornelius Varley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Hampstead Heath, which sold at auction in July 2010 for GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,775.37).
