Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A bay racehorse with a jockey up, being led by a groom, a racecourse beyond by Clifton Tomson was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2000, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,762.50 (€ 2,880.74). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Clifton Tomson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Finish Of The St. Leger Stakes, 1815 in December 2012 with an auction result of GBP 55,250.00 (€ 68,138.59).
