Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Chen Julai achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in December 2015. In the Fine Chinese Modern Paintings auction, the work Ink Bamboo sold for HKD 40,000.00 (€ 4,751.82) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Chen Julai achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Calligraphy Couplet In Zhuanshu in April 2017 with an auction result of HKD 2,062,500.00 (€ 243,448.83).
