Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Carpet Merchants by Charles Wilda was auctioned at Sothebys in London in June 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 75,000.00 (€ 82,599.50). Admittedly, works by Charles Wilda have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Egyptian Antiques Seller in October 2019 with an auction result of GBP 300,000.00 (€ 347,978.48).
