Auction result well in line with expectations

The work Skaters, A Scene On Duddingston Loch Near Edinburgh by Charles Lees was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May 2011. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 100,000.00 – 200,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 121,250.00 (€ 138,649.75) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Lees - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The finished sketch for The Golfers: A Grand Match played on the St. Andrews Links by Sir David Baird, Bt. and Sir Ralph Anstruther, Bt. of Balcaskie, against Major Playfair and John Campbell, Esq., of Glensaddell, in 1850, which sold at auction in May 2012 for GBP 337,250.00 (€ 420,198.66).
