Auction result well in line with expectations
The work White chalk cliffs on the island of Möen, with a seated man looking at the sea with a telescope by Caspar David Friedrich was sold in the Old Master & Early British Drawings and Watercolours auction at Christies in London in July 2012. The price achieved of GBP 229,250.00 (€ 292,002.88) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 200,000.00 – 300,000.00. Admittedly, works by Caspar David Friedrich have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work German landschaft Mit Gebirgsee, Morgen (Landscape With Mountain Lake, Morning) in December 2018 with an auction result of GBP 2,530,000.00 (€ 2,818,644.38).
