This artwork by Cai Jin achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April 2011. In the The Ullens Collection - The Nascence of Avant Garde China auction, the work Banana Plant No. 18 sold for HKD 400,000.00 (€ 34,761.49) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 180,000.00. This high result makes Banana Plant No. 18 the most expensive artwork by Cai Jin that we have observed at auctions so far.
